Although there are many details to consider ensuring a website looks and functions perfectly, there is nothing wrong with exercising simplicity in your website design. It is essential to understand that there is a distinct difference between keeping it simple and being too simple. For instance, while a header may seem like the perfect place for a high-resolution image to attract potential customers, keeping it simple with an appealing title and tagline can have an even greater response from the majority of visitors.
Do Not Underestimate the Importance of the Typeface
Certain typefaces look better than others, which means you should focus on the ones that look best, and then use them for the content of your website. It is possible to get great suggestions from a web designer, but more importantly, you want to use them for implementing the use of visually-appealing text. Organization is just as important as the content you use, and the typeface used. It is usually best to go with san serif typefaces for headlines and serif typefaces for body text as they both provide advantages that are specific to what you should be trying to accomplish each one.
Avoid Using Too Many Colors
Just as a poor typeface can be distracting and unappealing to visitors, too many colors can have the same effect on web users. For instance, imagine your favorite sites, the majority of them have a color scheme, and it usually does not include an outrageous number of drastically different colors. It is beneficial to apply this same understanding to your website, and this means sticking with a few neutral colors, and then a single standout color to enhance the appearance of your website, but without looking unprofessional.
Extra Space Is Better than Clutter
It is not a requirement to fill every bit of space on a page, so do not think you need to do this. For the most part, it is much better leaving blank space, which applies to brick-and-mortar businesses, as well. Covering every bit of space available makes for an uncomfortable experience, which means you need to learn how to use blank space to your advantage, and this is something a web designer can help you accomplish.
