There’s one universal truth regarding search engine optimization: it’s impossible to guarantee specific results. In this blog we’ll explain why there’s no guarantee with SEO and why you should be skeptical of those who claim otherwise.
First, you need to understand how SEO works. The goal is to improve your page rank on Google and other search engines so you show up in their results. This entails focusing on certain topics in your content, writing effective headlines, and acquiring inbound links to your website. We know from experience and from Google itself that these practices will probably improve your page rank.
None of those things can guarantee your page rank to rise, though. We know that if you add certain elements to your content, there’s a good chance it will go up. All we’re trying to do is put your website in the best position possible to show up in search results.
Now you can see why it’s impossible to guarantee any results. According to a recent Econsultancy article, anyone who does is probably up to no good:
“There are no easy shortcuts to rank organically. A good SEO agency will help you to rank as highly as your site can, but it simply isn’t possible to guarantee page one rankings. Agencies promising such nonsense are likely to do more harm than good in the long term, and help to give SEO a bad name.”
The way we see it, there are two possibilities when someone guarantees SEO results:
1. They’re lying
2. They’re trying to spam Google’s algorithm (these are referred to as black hat tactics)
You’ll find out sooner or later if the company is merely lying. The real problem is when they try to cheat Google’s algorithm. Once Google finds out, it’ll penalize your website. The search engine has no idea if an agency is running your SEO, so it’ll be your company’s website that suffers.
