We are constantly surrounded by technology. We all have our own dedicated WiFi, almost every single home in the U.S. has a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet, and, according to research done by the Pew Research Center, of the 91% of adults who have a cell phone, 56% of those are smartphones, each one just full of apps. Here are a few more statistics from the survey:
- 67% of cell owners check their phone for messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.
- 44% of cell owners have slept with their phone next to their bed
- 29% of cell owners describe their cell phone as “something they can’t imagine living without.”
People rarely part with their devices when they are out (most can’t even put it down around company). Many even say that leaving without their cell phone will prompt them to return home to fetch it immediately. And according to a recent article found here, smartphone users can’t go six minutes without checking it. An average of 150 times a day.
Having a mobile marketing application for your business is just as vital and important as advertising is. And creating an app is, as the Huffington Post puts it, “a branding tool which is used for keeping your clients aware of your service, for increasing the level of customers’ loyalty and for bringing them back to you at the first possible chance.”
To further corroborate this evidence we can take a look at what is referred to as The Starbucks Example, for mobile apps. Starbucks launched their app in 2011 pre-loaded with their reward program called My Starbucks Reward. From there, users were able to fill up their account with money. Then, after each purchase was made, users were rewarded with stars that they could turn in for the company’s production.
Two years later and “every 10th purchase in Starbucks is made via mobile device,” and “3 million mobile transactions are made weekly.” Convinced?
